THE Scottish government has announced £1 million to support Gaelic through “the introduction of areas of linguistic significance.”
Gaelic Secretary Mairi McAllan confirmed the funding as the Royal National Mod, the annual celebration of Gaelic culture, got under way in Glasgow today.
Ms McAllan said: “Gaelic can now claim, alongside Scots, official status as a language of Scotland, thanks to the Scottish Languages Act.
