On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that Moscow is ready to do everything within its power to help Tehran resolve the regional conflict.

During a meeting with the Iranian leader in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan, Putin said Iran has made concrete efforts to end the conflict and put forward new proposals for a peaceful settlement.

Russia-Iran relations have been developing positively under a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty signed early 2025, Putin said, noting that bilateral trade grew by more than 21 percent last year, and the growth trend continued in the first seven months of this year. Humanitarian exchanges have also been active, he added.

For his part, President Pezeshkian confirmed the Persian nation’s desire to resolve conflicts through negotiation, expressed appreciation for Russian support in international forums, and reaffirmed Iran’s interest in expanding economic relations with Russia.

“We never walked away from the negotiating table. We are trying to end the war as soon as possible. And it is necessary for everyone to respect our rights. But if they start from unilateral positions, that will not happen in the short term,” he said.

“The U.S. tries to dictate its point of view to all countries in the world,” the Iranian president emphasized and expressed appreciation for the stance Russia maintained at the United Nations, which prevented the U.S. from adopting new measures against Tehran.

On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that he would not launch attacks against Iran “at any time before the midterm elections,” which are to be held in the country on November 3. He also stated that his negotiators are holding “productive” talks with Tehran.
