A Bolsonarist supporter opened fire Thursday night at a rally of backers of Brazilian President and reelection candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in front of the Federal University of Sergipe, in the northwest of the country.
The shooting took place during a campaign activity in San Cristóbal, in the metropolitan area of Aracaju, capital of Sergipe state.
Footage circulating from the scene shows young people carrying flags of the ruling Workers’ Party (PT) running to take cover from the gunfire. Some accounts on social media reported that the attacker fired into the air.

The minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of Brazil, Guilherme Boulos, denounced the armed attack in a message posted on his X account alongside a video of the incident. He blamed a follower of far-right candidate Flávio Bolsonaro for shooting at those gathered at the mobilization.
Boulos compared the attack to earlier assaults carried out by radical sectors, saying this is the Brazil of the Bolsonaros.
