THOUSANDS of people took to the streets of Rio de Janeiro this week in a student-led protest against presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro and the growing influence of Brazil’s far right.

The march on Wednesday came days after the far-right senator, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, won 47 per cent in the first round of the presidential race, ahead of incumbent left-wing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on 45 per cent.

The two face a run-off on October 25.

Protesters carried signs reading “Never again Bolsonaro” and “No to the father, no to the son.”
