JOHN SWINNEY has defended Transport Secretary Stephen Flynn from “serious concerns” over his competence as a minister.

The First Minister faced questions at the transport committee over Mr Flynn’s first appearance at it, where he appeared not to be aware about a flammable gas leak on the CalMac’s Glen Sannox ferry.

Committee convener Willie Rennie told Mr Swinney: “He kept from Parliament Alexander Dennis buses [didn’t meet furlough criteria], he didn’t act on time with the island flights, and he wasn’t even aware that inflammable gas was leaked onto a ferry — none of that.
