Zionist forces killed Civil Defense volunteer Mohammad Tammous on October 7, as he attempted to evacuate wounded Palestinians near the ruined Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, according to Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal.
The killing occurred during an intensification of Israeli airstrikes, artillery shelling and live fire overnight across the Gaza Strip, while rescue teams continued risking their lives to save civilians under direct attack, Basal said. Tammous died of his wounds at Al-Shifa Hospital, while other Palestinians wounded in the same attack were transferred for treatment.
The latest Israeli attacks bring to 1,467 the number of Palestinians killed since the so-called ceasefire took effect last October, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

In the three years since October 2023, Israel has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians in Gaza and wounded more than 175,000, while around 90% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed. Homes, hospitals, schools, universities and places of worship lie in ruins, and more than 90% of a population that stood at 2.3 million at the start of the escalation has been forcibly displaced — in many cases the same family multiple times — leaving most survivors in open-air camps amid disease, food shortages, the collapse of basic services and an Israeli blockade preventing needed humanitarian aid from arriving.
Israel’s campaign has annihilated Gaza’s health system, with attacks on medical facilities and severe restrictions on aid forcing hospitals to operate far beyond capacity without enough staff, fuel or medicine.
The UN Food and Agriculture Organization found that only 3% of Gaza’s farmland remains accessible and intact, and that Palestinian farmers cannot reach their fields due to the expansion of the zone under Israeli military control.
The Palestinian Ministry of Education reported that Israel has killed 20,748 students and 1,058 teachers and educational staff in Gaza and the occupied West Bank since October 2023, including 19,189 schoolchildren and 1,386 university students in Gaza alone. The destruction of nearly 98% of Gaza’s schools and the prolonged denial of regular education to some 700,000 children aged four to 17 have devastated the territory’s education system and threaten to deprive an entire generation of learning, opportunity and social recovery.
