Hundreds of people marched in Bogotá on Wednesday under the slogan “The genocide continues” to reject the restoration of relations between the new Colombian government and Israel, as three years of Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip are marked.

The march began near the Israeli Embassy in the Colombian capital. Attendees carried flags and banners with messages including “End Israel-U.S. genocide in Gaza,” “Zionists out of Latin America,” and “It is not a war, it is genocide.” Along El Dorado avenue, demonstrators wore keffiyehs and unfurled a giant Palestinian flag from a pedestrian bridge.

The demonstration comes amid a foreign policy promoted by Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella, who has deepened ties with the United States and restored diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv, reversing the decision of his predecessor, Gustavo Petro, who broke ties in May 2024. In September, De la Espriella withdrew Colombia from the case presented by South Africa against Israel before the International Court of Justice.

“Palestine remained occupied, every day people are killed in Gaza and the West Bank and within Israel’s own borders, and Gaza is destroyed, people are under the rubble. Every day there are massacres and bombings. That is why this day is important internationally,” said María, a member of the Socialist Workers’ Party.
