The program includes nearly twenty free activities organized in collaboration with artists, academics, and cultural institutions from Cuba and Spain. The goal is to highlight shared roots and contribute to the “revitalization” of cultural and community spaces.

One of the main events will be the Grand Gala of Spain’s National Day, featuring the renowned Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba company at the Teatro Marti. The performance will be dedicated to Spanish dance and is part of the official celebrations.

Additionally, the National Ballet of Cuba, under the direction of Viengsay Valdas, will present a special performance of the classic Don Quixote at the National Theater of Cuba.

The program also includes a concert by the Cuerdas del Alma quartet, which will perform compositions by emblematic figures of Spanish music such as Manuel de Falla, Isaac Albeniz, Fernando Sor, and Francisco Tarrega.

Among the film and academic offerings, highlights include a screening of the Spanish film “El Desencanto,” directed by Jaime Chavarri, and a lecture on “Maria Zambrano and Her Poetic Reason,” given by Cuban academic Leonardo Sarria Muzio.

Spain’s National Day has been celebrated every October 12th since 1892 and commemorates Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas, a date also known as Columbus Day.
