“It is truly infuriating that the presence of these bases leads to women being killed or raped like this.” Protesters in Tokyo rallied in front of the US embassy Tuesday night, demanding the expulsion of US bases from the country. Demonstrations have continued day after day after a US Marine was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of killing 39-year-old Anna Yagi in Okinawa. The murder has reignited fury over the presence of US military bases in the country – the overwhelming majority of which are stationed in Okinawa.
