The program aims to increase both planted areas and agricultural yields.
On Monday, the 2026-2027 tobacco campaign began in Cuba with the first plantings at La Puntilla farm, owned by producer Linner Marrero, in the Villa Clara province.

The program aims to increase both planted areas and agricultural yields. It anticipates cultivating approximately 1,900 hectares of tobacco under an organizational structure that integrates the provinces of Villa Clara and Cienfuegos into a single governing entity.
However, the majority of production areas will be concentrated in Villa Clara province, while the first seedlings from nurseries have already been transplanted to the fields.
The campaign is considered strategic for the Cuban economy due to its capacity to generate employment, exports, and foreign exchange earnings for the country. Around 350 farmers have signed production contracts, a higher number than in the previous campaign.

The text reads, “Tobacco planting in Villa Clara and the producers at the forefront of the task.”
Meanwhile, producers aim to exceed yields of 1.24 tons per hectare. The availability of approximately 23,000 seedbeds in traditional nurseries and 24 specialized tunnels guarantees early and staggered planting.
These facilities will provide the necessary seedlings to cover all the planned areas in Villa Clara and Cienfuegos provinces. The remaining hectares of tobacco seeds will be distributed among the Cienfuegos municipalities of Cumanayagua, Cruces, Lajas, and Rodas.
The program is increasingly incorporating sustainable technologies. Currently, 60% of the nurseries have photovoltaic irrigation systems, and new equipment is being acquired to expand the use of solar energy and reduce fuel consumption.
