Rodriguez supervised the work being carried out at the Rafael Rangel building, known as the complex’s new structure, whose construction dates to 1960.
A repowering process is underway in this area that includes the provision of high-tech medical supplies and equipment, such as CT scanners, ultrasound machines, X-ray equipment, and technology for the hemodynamics unit and cardiology service.
Venezuelan authorities are also carrying out a comprehensive restoration of the historic building, the auditorium, and the hospital wards, which will receive new furniture.
During the tour of the health care facility, Rodriguez highlighted the historical and architectural value of Venezuela’s oldest health care center, which recalls the legacy of emblematic figures in the country’s medical history, such as doctors Jose Gregorio Hernandez and Luis Razetti.
She emphasized that the institution’s most valuable resource is its medical and administrative staff and the medical students who serve and pursue their academic activities there on a daily basis.
The intervention at Hospital Vargas is part of the Health and Life Plan 2026, an initiative announced at the beginning of the year that includes the recovery of infrastructure, equipment and capabilities to guarantee free, high-quality public health care.
Currently, the plan covers more than 20 health care centers being addressed simultaneously in Caracas and the states of Aragua, Miranda and La Guaira.
Rodriguez announced that in the coming days she will present an overall assessment of the goals achieved and the projects under development under the program before the end of the current year.
