Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei slammed France’s crackdown on student protesters, accusing police of using “disproportionate violence” and calling their actions “unjustifiable.” Baghaei called out France for hypocrisy on human rights, stating, “Regardless of whether France claims to uphold human rights or not, as a state that is a party to many human rights treaties, it is obligated to respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of its people.” France has seen three weeks of student protests over overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages, and deteriorating conditions. Police have responded with overwhelming force, deploying riot control units, tear gas grenades, and rubber bullets. On Monday, a 15-year-old student lost his hand and part of his arm after picking up a police dispersal grenade.
