In his article titled “Nicaragua and the North American Hemispheric Discourse,” Sefton highlighted Managua’s cooperation with neighboring countries in areas such as electric power, public health, environmental protection, monitoring of natural events, border security, and tourism, as well as its cooperation with Russia, China, and Belarus.
According to Sefton, Chinese cooperation has opened up new prospects for Central America through infrastructure and transport projects, including the modernization of the Port of Corinto and the “Julia Herrera de Pomares” Logistics Center in Nicaragua.
He also mentioned the Bluefields deep-water port project, which, alongside the expansion of roads, airports, and other infrastructure, seeks to strengthen maritime, land, and air connectivity for Nicaragua and the region.
Regarding Russia, the analyst highlighted cooperation in security, biosafety, cybersecurity, and the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking, as well as in health, transport, the modernization of production machinery, legal cooperation, and satellite technology.
He also noted the important work of the Mechnikov Latin American Institute of Biotechnology and nuclear medicine projects developed with the support of the Russian company Rosatom.
The analyst notes that China has expanded its trade and investment ties in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, mining, and technology, as well as through the Belt and Road Initiative.
