During the visit to Havana by members of the “Route to Cuba” solidarity project and the “Energy for Life: Let’s Turn on the Light in Cuba” caravan—comprising European and Italian lawmakers as well as representatives of European civil society—condemnation was voiced regarding the “maximum pressure” policy imposed by Washington on the Caribbean nation.

In exclusive statements to Prensa Latina, Barbera emphasized that Nexus’ primary goal is to break the blockade imposed by the US Government over 60 years ago.

He noted that the purpose of the visit to Cuba was to witness the current situation firsthand. This will enable the launch of a training project for Italian workers and trade union leaders, drawing on the lived experiences of Cuban laborers, the elderly, children, and women under present conditions, he highlighted.

The “Energy for Life: Let’s Turn on the Light in Cuba” campaign has enabled thousands of individuals, as well as cultural, educational, and healthcare institutions in Cuba, to benefit from the installation of photovoltaic systems.

Given that the blockade restricts Cuba’s access to international credit, technology, and equipment, the NGO serves as an alternative channel for financing and acquiring essential goods.
