The Green party has passed a resolution declaring, rightly, that Zionism is racism. The vote passed at the party’s autumn conference today by 1022-813 votes. The result comes despite a repeat of tactics – no confidence votes and delaying manoeuvres – that the Israel lobby used to bring down the motion at the Greens’ spring conference in March.

UK voters now, at last, have a party to support that explicitly opposed Israel’s genocide in Gaza, its apartheid and its theft of Palestinian land. An amendment to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of a united Palestinian state passed convincingly.

Anti-genocide activist Greg Hadfield said:

It’s a historic day. I’m delighted. The Green Party is now the only AZ party in UK… now we can put pressure on the terrorist apartheid state of Israel … and stop supporting Israel in its genocide. It’s a historic day. The only tears will be tears of joy.

Shamefully, all current Green MPs spoke against the motion, according to attendees. Cue gnashing of teeth among Israel’s rabid supporters. One, ‘Judean’ Elise Benjamin, even stooped low enough as to fashion her voting card into a yellow star:
