The World Food Programme (WFP) announced that it will cut by 50% its food assistance to the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip due to a lack of funds. The entity said the decision, effective immediately, stems from a severe lack of financing.
The text warned that this poses a threat to hundreds of thousands of people who depend on this aid to be able to bring food to their homes. It specified that in the case of displaced people, this assistance is not a supplement, but one of the few available sources of food.
The WFP regretted that the cut means fewer meals, smaller rations, and more families forced to choose between basic needs while food insecurity continues to affect a large part of the population.
It underscored that if it does not obtain new funds, its operations will continue to face cuts.
