The copilot of Flydubai flight FZ1073, identified by the initials H.A.H. and accused of stabbing the captain to attempt to crash the aircraft covering the Dubai-Tel Aviv route, had been previously barred from flying in Oman after “extremist ideas” were detected in him, according to a report Saturday by news outlet Al Arabiya citing regional intelligence sources—an incident that has raised alarms about intelligence and security protocols in the country’s civil aviation.

According to the information disclosed, the suspect, born in the United Arab Emirates to an Omani father and Syrian mother, left Omani territory after being removed from the national airline Oman Air, where he was relegated to office duties due to fears about his radicalization.

Flydubai confirmed that the plane “landed safely” and passengers are well, following the altercation in the cockpit.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the subject may have been influenced by radical groups during stays in Syria. Before joining Flydubai eight months ago, the individual also worked for the state-owned company Royal Air Maroc.

Authorities in the sector question how a profile with a history of radicalization and banned in Oman managed to obtain the accreditations to operate a sensitive route destined for Tel Aviv, especially considering the absence of direct diplomatic ties between Muscat and Israel.

So far, the Emirati General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has avoided delving into the details of the case pending expert reports. However, the Emirati General Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the evaluation of a specialized technical team to determine whether the action responds to a conspiracy by international terrorist groups.

Reports from Tabuk: Captain’s Condition

Reports from the Saudi city of Tabuk, where the plane made an emergency landing, confirmed that the aircraft’s captain, Indian citizen Smit Machchhar, was discharged after being treated for knife wounds and transferred to Abu Dhabi.

In statements to authorities, the pilot recounted how, despite being wounded, he managed to regain control when the plane went into a dive and open the cockpit to safeguard the lives of passengers.

Escalation of Geopolitical Tensions

The incident has provoked immediate political and international reactions. Both Emirati leadership and the Government of Israel labeled the attack a “terrorist act.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assured that security agencies are investigating whether the attacker acted under orders from third parties, warning of reprisals against intellectual responsables, in a speech that reveals undertones of using the incident to justify and pursue its own ends.

On the international plane, United States President Donald Trump launched direct warnings toward Tehran, threatening without evidence with military actions if investigations confirm responsibilities or links of the Islamic Republic to the event that occurred aboard the Emirati aircraft.
