The Sudan Medical Network said on Saturday that more than 25 civilians have been extrajudicially executed by paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (FAR) in the town of Um Badr, an area controlled by these forces in the state of North Kordofan in central Sudan.

The Sudan Doctors’ Network condemned in a statement “the disturbing images circulating” of the “executions,” “shocking scenes that reveal the extent of the violations committed against the civilian population in areas under the control of these forces.”

It indicated that this crime, for which it is not detailed when it occurred, “is aggravated by indications that the killings were carried out for ethnic reasons, under the accusation that the victims supported or sympathized with the Sudanese Armed Forces.”

The NGO stressed “the urgent need for immediate international action to stop the repeated violations committed against the civilian population in areas affected by the conflict.” So far, the paramilitaries have not reacted to this information.

This event comes as the Sudanese Army announced yesterday, Friday, that it had expanded its control in North Kordofan by recovering the Al Mazroub area from the paramilitaries’ dominion.

Al Mazroub was one of the few strongholds the paramilitaries had in North Kordofan, while the regular army seeks to control the entire state, which is part of the extensive Kordofan region.

The war in Sudan, which began in April 2023, has caused tens of thousands of deaths and has forced the exodus of some 14 million people in the worst displacement crisis on the planet, according to the UN.
