Nationwide youth protests erupted in India this week seeking the removal of the country’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). Protesters allege irregularities in the electoral process during state elections and deliberate mass disenfranchisement in favor of the right-wing. Demonstrations have been called by the Indian National Congress (INC), civil society groups, student and youth organizations, and the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Protesters are demanding the halting of the so-called Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls, the re-inclusion of all the voters removed so far from the rolls, and the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
