The Games return to Latin America after the 2022 edition hosted by Argentina. Eleven sports, one e-sport and 40 skating-related disciplines, such as skateboarding and downhill, will be contested.

On Thursday, participants made their final preparations, toured the competition venues and finished settling in. Athletes such as Brazil’s Augusto Akio, who won the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and his compatriot Rayssa Leal, a two-time Olympic medalist at age 18, are two of the athletes to watch at the Games.

Established stars such as British skater of Japanese heritage Sky Brown, one of the world’s most influential skaters, and young Spaniard Egoitz Bijueska, who at just 15 already leads the world rankings in the Park discipline, have also arrived in the Paraguayan capital.

Organizers explained that these athletes are among the more than 15,000 people — including athletes, judges, technical teams, coaches and accompanying personnel — who have arrived in Paraguay since the beginning of the week.

The World Championships will be held primarily at venues belonging to the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP), the National Sports Secretariat (SND) and the Asuncion Costanera, where the outdoor speed events will take place.

In March 2025, Paraguay had already announced that it would host the skating World Championships, a biennial event that held its first edition under the name “World Skate Games” in 2019, although it had a predecessor in the “World Roller Games” in 2017, which were held in the Chinese city of Nanjing.
