“Fascism wants to seize us again, but we are not going to allow it.” Chilean police violently repressed a Santiago student protest with water cannons and teargas on Thursday. The mobilization – which took place a day after President Jose Antonio Kast introduced the 2027 Budget Bill – was called as part of the National Education Strike protesting potential cuts to education funding. The day of action was called by the Confederation of Students of Chile (CONFECH) under the slogan “Not a peso less for education.” Workers, lawyers, and teachers joined the march along with the students. Local media reported at least 25 arrests.
