Lopez Obrador also expressed views on the role of drug consumption in the decline of the United States.
Through a video posted on social media on Wednesday, former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) reappeared in public to present a new book on which he had been working since leaving the Mexican presidency in 2024.

“On this occasion, I present my new book: People (Pueblo). The previous one, Greatness (Grandeza), deals with the joy of living in a country with deep cultural roots, values and spirituality. For this latest one, I had originally thought of calling it ‘Glory’, to also tell the fruitful political history of Mexico,” he said.
“However, I decided instead, with the same purpose, to call it ‘People’, although the word itself may cause annoyance to some who forget that, in an authentic democracy, the sovereign, the one who rules, forgive me for repeating it, is the people.”
“With these two books, I finish supporting what we call Mexican humanism, a conception and alternative model applied by the Fourth Transformation movement, whose essence can be defined in one phrase: for the good of all, the poor come first,” AMLO concluded.
The cocaine sold in the Black neighborhoods of the US came from the CIA and the government, who used it to fund the war in Central America. The drugs came from U.S. politicians and federal agencies; their war on drugs is a fraud.

Through a video posted on YouTube, the former Mexican president also expressed views on the role of drug consumption in the decline of the United States.
“The crisis they have in the United States, the decline of the States, is due to the fact that they went after material things and became an economic power and a military power. But you know what? They have many problems with the disintegration of the family. The pandemic of drug consumption happens because of that,” he said.
In that regard, AMLO criticized U.S. leaders for preferring to implement solutions through a “heavy-handed approach” rather than addressing the causes of the drug addiction problem, among them family disintegration and exacerbated individualism.
“Even if fentanyl were eliminated, the problem would not be solved, because they would create another substance, as has already happened,” the leftist politician said.
Regarding his country’s situation, Lopez Obrador asserted that Mexico has managed to avoid decline by initiating social, political and economic transformations that began with his arrival at the presidency in 2018. This path is currently sustained by President Claudia Sheinbaum, he pointed out.
