Russian air defenses shot down 330 Ukrainian drones over 12 regions, the Crimean Peninsula, and the Black Sea.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the move is a response to the “unfounded” and “unfriendly” decision by Hungarian authorities on Sept. 8 to expel several Russian diplomats. The Hungarian ambassador was informed that the expelled diplomats must leave Russian territory within two weeks.

Previously, on Sept. 8, the Hungarian government announced that it had expelled 10 employees of the Russian Embassy in Budapest for carrying out activities considered “unacceptable.”

“Today, the Foreign Ministry informed the Russian ambassador in Budapest that, according to an assessment by the Hungarian authorities, 10 members of the Russian mission carried out activities in Hungary that are unacceptable for a diplomat under the Vienna Convention,” said Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban.

The government of Peter Magyar, which took office last May, has repeatedly and forcefully distanced itself from the pro-Russian positions of the previous government, led by ultranationalist Viktor Orban.

On Thursday, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that its air defenses had shot down 330 long-range Ukrainian drones over 12 Russian regions, the Crimean Peninsula, and the Black Sea.

Some of the unmanned aircraft were destroyed in the Moscow region, which was the target of intense attacks during the legislative elections on Sept. 20. Neither local authorities nor the press had reported any casualties or damage to critical Russian infrastructure.
