A drone strike by Israeli forces in Gaza on Wednesday killed journalist Mohamad Abdul Aziz al-Najar, raising the total number of Palestinian journalists killed since October 2023 to 263.
The attack occurred in the Al-Mawasi area, north of Khan Yunis, in the southern part of the enclave, while Al-Najar was working on a report about the memorization of the Quran.
The Nasser Medical Complex confirmed the death of the 38-year-old communicator, who also served as an imam and worked for Quran Radio, a radio station affiliated with the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs of Gaza.

Ikrami al-Mudallal, director of media for the ministry, said that Al-Najar was targeted “while performing his work of producing informative material related to the memorization of the Quran.”
The Gaza Government Media Office denounced these attacks as part of a deliberate policy by the occupying forces to silence the Palestinian voice and hide the truth on the ground.

The government agency strongly condemned the systematic killing of media workers and demanded that the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Federation of Journalists, and unions firmly denounce these crimes. It also urged the international community to bring the perpetrators to international tribunals.
Six people were killed also on Wednesday by an Israeli drone attack on a passenger van in Tal al-Hawa, a neighbourhood in southwest Gaza City, according to medical sources.
So far, official records document the deaths of 32 family members of journalists, the total or partial destruction of 53 homes belonging to communicators, and severe damage to dozens of media institutions.
