The twenty-eighth edition of the Santo Domingo International Book Fair (FILSD 2026) establishes literature, poetry, and the performing arts as the core pillars of its programming this Wednesday, featuring over 700 activities running until October 4 at the Juan Pablo Duarte Cultural Plaza.

Dominican writer José Mármol is the featured author of this edition—an honor that includes the release of three works by the National Publishing House: Sculpting the Mist (in spanish Esculpir la niebla), Metaphors of Time (in spanish Metáforas del tiempo), and The Impossible Writing (in spanish La escritura imposible).
Highlights include the performance tribute José, the Island (in spanish José, la isla)—a poetic performance held at the Good Words Pavilion (in spanish Pabellón de las Buenas Palabras) that offers a multifaceted approach to the celebrated author’s literary work.
The program includes spaces dedicated to education and the promotion of reading, such as the Motivation to Read workshop in the Aída Bonnelly Hall at the Eduardo Brito National Theater, and the lecture Language and Tongue in the Narrative of Poet Rita Indiana, presented by storyteller Delia Blanco.

Panama serves as the guest country of honor, bringing a delegation of over 35 writers and representatives from the fields of music, dance, and theater, thereby strengthening the event’s international reach.
Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo highlighted that this new edition aims to transform FILSD into a meeting point for writers, readers, publishers, and representatives of diverse cultural expressions. The fair brings together 70 writers from various countries, 32 international publishing houses, 21 national publishers, and 44 Dominican bookstores, integrating literature, cinema, music, exhibitions, and other cultural expressions into a program featuring over 700 activities.
The international lineup includes a poetry recital featuring voices from diverse literary traditions, with the participation of Joumana Haddad (Lebanon), Diego Valverde Villena (Bolivia), Lara Moreno (Spain), and Soledad Álvarez (Dominican Republic).
Through this initiative, the Ministry of Culture aims to cement the Santo Domingo International Book Fair as a major hub for literature, thought, and cultural creation in Ibero-America.
