Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced on Monday that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio repeated lies to justify the economic and financial blockade against Cuba and the pressure measures applied by Washington against the island’s population.

Via his X account, Rodríguez stated that Rubio is the embodiment of an aggressive, reviled, and isolated policy that relies solely on force and intimidation, rather than truth or reason.
In an interview with Fox News, Marco Rubio reiterated that Cuba constitutes a “failed state” and warned that President Donald Trump’s administration would not allow the Caribbean nation to become—in his view—an operational platform against U.S. national security.
Cuban authorities consider these statements part of a rhetoric aimed at justifying the intensification of the blockade and economic sanctions against the Cuban people. They also accuse Rubio of systematically blaming the Havana government for the effects of coercive measures implemented by Washington.
The Foreign Minister noted that the policy of strangulation promoted by the United States was rejected in recent days by dozens of heads of delegation participating in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

During his address to the UN General Assembly, Rodríguez denounced the intensification of the energy blockade and financial persecution against Cuba, as well as actions intended to prevent the arrival of fuel tankers.
The Foreign Minister denounced that these measures constitute, under the principles of international law, a de facto naval blockade tantamount to an act of war. He added that the economic pressure directly affects the Cuban population and represents an act of collective punishment—a crime also prohibited by international humanitarian law.
Addressing the plenary, Rodríguez further reported that more than 7,000 containers holding food, medicines, and essential supplies remain held up at various ports around the world due to U.S. intimidation—a situation that exacerbates shortages on the island.
Rodríguez dismissed Washington’s claim that Cuba poses a danger to the United States as absurd and fallacious. “Cuba is not a threat; the blockade is,” he maintained.
He also reaffirmed Havana’s readiness to engage in dialogue with the U.S. government based on respect, sovereign equality, international law, and non-interference in internal affairs.
Finally, he called for the democratization and strengthening of the UN in the face of the rise of unilateral impositions and military and economic aggression.
