In a statement released on social media, the political group supported the Cuban proposal—put forward by Emilio Lozada, head of the Ideological Department of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Central Committee, during a peace forum held in Spain.

This call is also grounded in respect for the integrity of states and the United Nations Charter, as well as the defense of the Proclamation of Latin America as a Zone of Peace, signed in Havana in 2014.

The PVP aligns itself with the pursuit of political, negotiated solutions to conflicts and the right of peoples to sovereignly determine their own destiny, as affirmed by the PCC representative at the event, which was convened in Madrid by the Communist Party of Spain.

According to the party, humanity is facing an extremely dangerous moment. Wars, the arms race, increasing militarization, the expansion of military alliances, and the risk of nuclear confrontation threaten the lives and futures of peoples.

At the same time, it notes, vast economic resources are allocated to weaponry rather than addressing the health, education, housing, food, and fundamental needs of millions of human beings.

Likewise, the PVP advocated for strategic alliances to achieve a new international balance for peace—based on respect for sovereignty, free self-determination, and the legitimate interests of peoples—free from impositions, military threats, political or economic subordination, or any power’s claim to unilaterally determine the planet’s destiny.
