Gregory Feathers was recently rehired as an immigration crackdown expands under President Trump.
On Monday, The Texas Tribune reported that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent involved in the killing of Mexican immigrant Lorenzo Salgado was identified as Gregory Feathers.

His involvement in the incident that occurred July 7 in Houston, Texas, was also corroborated by documents that were mistakenly published by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Other documents obtained by the Texas newspaper indicated that Feathers called emergency services and identified him as one of two agents who made the arrest after the fatal pursuit. One of the immigrants traveling with Salgado identified the officer as the person who shot the Mexican immigrant.
Feathers was recently rehired by ICE after previously retiring from the agency. Currently, he faces no charges in connection with the Mexican man’s death.

Salgado had lived in the United States for 35 years, worked in construction and was in the process of regularizing his immigration status. He was the father of three children and was heading to work with his brother and two other co-workers when agents intercepted the vehicle.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has defended Feathers, saying he fired in self-defense because Salgado allegedly attempted to run him over. But three workers who were traveling with him have denied these allegations. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office in Houston opened an investigation into Salgado’s death.
U.S. President Donald Trump increased the hiring of ICE agents to advance his deportation campaign, which seeks to expel at least 1 million immigrants in one year.
