Google Earth updated its images to show the magnitude of the devastation in Gaza, a consequence of Israeli military action that has damaged or destroyed most homes, hospitals, schools and buildings across the 360-square-kilometer territory, considered one of the most densely populated areas in the world.
It is unknown when exactly the last Google Earth update was made, but the satellite images date from 2026.

Earlier this month, the UN called for international researchers to be granted access to all areas of Gaza to help collect evidence and document alleged violations, while human remains continued to appear under the rubble. Satellite images had already documented the magnitude of the devastation, but the new images show a more updated record of the damage suffered throughout the region.

Earlier this year, the Red Cross told international journalists that there is only one fully functioning excavator to help remove rubble throughout the territory, so it is estimated that thousands of people will remain buried under the rubble. The Gaza forensic team reported that the lack of DNA evidence has left hundreds of bodies unidentified, and that at least 1,129 were recovered from the rubble but have not been assigned a name.
It is estimated that there are 60 million tons of rubble spread throughout the territory as a result of Zionist bombings. Experts say that clearing the rubble could take decades, but that it could be done in seven years if adequate resources were allocated.

An investigation by the international press found satellite images that appeared to show Israel compacting and removing rubble and remains from Gaza, which could contain human remains and possible evidence of war crimes in various locations.
