Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine lambasted France and Ukraine in front of the UN General Assembly Friday for attempting to “recolonize” the Sahel. The Sahel, according to Zeine, is in a “war of liberation” to control its oil, gold, lithium, uranium – “riches” that “make the former colonial powers salivate.” Zeine remained firm on the Sahel’s sovereignty, vowing, “Our resources belong to our people. Our future will no longer be decided elsewhere.”
