On Monday, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina qualified for the final of the ATP 250 tournament in Chengdu—a hard-court event in China—after defeating Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first semifinal with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

The Spaniard, ranked No. 28 in the ATP rankings, was returning to the tour at this event after a months-long layoff due to back issues; he had previously eliminated Frenchman Alexandre Muller in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 7-5.
Basilashvili, ranked No. 121 in the world, reached the semifinals after beating American Jenson Brooksby 6-4, 7-6 in the quarterfinals. In their only previous meeting—held at the 2021 Metz tournament, also on hard court—the Georgian had prevailed in three sets.
The Georgian started the match with greater intensity and managed to break the Spaniard’s serve in the opening games. Amidst rapid rallies and dominant serving, Basilashvili closed out the first set 6-4, allowing no further break opportunities for Davidovich.

In the second set, the player from Málaga managed to save an early break point and secured the first break of the match to take a 2-0 lead. Although Basilashvili broke back in the seventh game (4-3), Davidovich closed out the set with another break (6-4) to level the match.
Before the third set, Basilashvili requested medical attention for discomfort in his hip and right leg, which hampered his performance. The Spaniard capitalized on the situation by breaking the Georgian’s serve in his opening service game to establish a 3-0 lead. Davidovich faced difficulties while serving at 4-1—saving two break points—but ultimately closed out the match on his next service game.
With this victory, Davidovich will aim to secure his second ATP title of 2026—and of his career—in Chengdu, following his win in Mallorca last June. His opponent in the final will be determined by the match between Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz (world No. 46) and Canada’s Denis Shapovalov (ranked 50th).
The Chengdu ATP 250 tournament is part of the men’s professional circuit; it awards 250 ranking points to the champion, with prize money reaching $184,085 for the winner.
