The former presidential candidate faces charges related to allegedly planning a violent protest in December 2024.
On Monday, Romanian ultranationalist Calin Georgescu appeared before the Bucharest Court of Appeal in proceedings in which he is accused of attempting to undermine the constitutional order by planning a violent protest in the Romanian capital in December 2024.

Georgescu received the most votes in the first round of the 2024 presidential election, which was annulled by the Constitutional Court in December of that year following indications of foreign interference in the electoral process.
The trial against the politician and 20 other people began Sept. 9 with a postponement requested by defense lawyers, who said they needed more time to study the case file. The hearing was postponed again Monday until Oct. 12.
Several dozen of Georgescu’s supporters gathered outside the court with flowers, flags and vuvuzelas, while security forces cordoned off the area with metal barriers to prevent incidents.

He told his supporters that Europe “is asking for war” and that the euro “will collapse,” and described as “pagan and anti-Romanian” the government proposed by conservative member of the European Parliament Siegfried Mureșan, whose investiture on Wednesday has little chance of succeeding because of a lack of parliamentary support.
Georgescu is also being prosecuted in another case for allegedly promoting Romanian leaders allied with Nazi Germany during World War II.
These proceedings are joined by a third case, in which he was detained for 24 hours last week and is accused of belonging to an organized criminal group and committing fraud involving more than 1 million euros.
