(SEPTEMBER 25, 2026).- The cyclone has sustained winds of 260 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 315. The SMN forecasts very heavy rains, landslides and flooding in areas of the Pacific coastline.
Hurricane Polo regained Category 5 in the early hours of this Friday, with sustained winds of 260 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 315, reported the National Meteorological Service (SMN).
The cyclone weakened on Thursday to Category 4, but again reached the top level of the Saffir-Simpson scale. At 06:00, central Mexico time, its center was located 430 kilometers south of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, and 660 kilometers south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur.
Polo was moving west at 19 kilometers per hour and, although it remains over the ocean, its circulation maintains conditions of rain and swells in different areas of the Mexican Pacific.
Polo Causes Rains in Six States
The SMN forecast very heavy rains in Jalisco, Sinaloa and Nayarit, as well as heavy precipitation in Colima, Michoacán and Baja California Sur.
The rains could raise the levels of rivers and streams, cause overflows and flooding in low-lying areas and generate landslides, particularly in susceptible areas.
Authorities are keeping watch over the evolution of the cyclone because its effects can extend beyond the area where its center is located.
High Waves Are Also Expected
The forecast calls for waves of two to three meters on the coasts of Baja California Sur, Nayarit and Jalisco.
On the coasts of Colima, waves of between one and two meters are expected.
The population of coastal areas and of the regions where rains are forecast should stay alert to updates from the National Meteorological Service and Civil Protection, since the trajectory and intensity of a cyclone can change.
