Mexico and South Korea signed a historic commercial roadmap this Friday aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and boosting economic cooperation until 2030, which includes 17 agreements.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and her South Korean counterpart, Lee Jae-myung, convened a State meeting at the National Palace to deepen bilateral relations.
The historic visit marks the first State tour by a South Korean President to Mexico since 2010, encompassing 17 strategic memorandums of understanding across various sectors.

The meeting culminated in the formal adoption of the Joint Action Plan Mexico-South Korea 2026-2030, a comprehensive framework designed to enhance cooperation in science, technology, agriculture, and public security.

Economic Partnership
The agreement also aims to integrate Mexican small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into global supply chains dominated by Asian corporations, fostering economic diversification and technological advancement.
In the financial realm, both governments agreed to conclude the review of the treaty on the reciprocal promotion and protection of investments after seven years of multilateral negotiations. President Lee announced the establishment of a 100 million dollars credit scheme to facilitate direct trade between the two economies, highlighting the significance of this economic partnership.
President Sheinbaum emphasized that bilateral trade reached a record $27 billion in 2025, with South Korea solidifying its position as one of Mexico’s top five trading partners. She noted that South Korea has invested over $11.5 billion in Mexico, underscoring the depth of their economic ties. President Lee described Mexico as the tenth global economic power and a crucial player in global supply chains, stressing the importance of their collaboration in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, aerospace, energy development, and national defense.

Strategic Alliances
The leaders also agreed to coordinate joint police efforts to combat transnational crimes, including drug trafficking, human trafficking, and cyber fraud. They explored mechanisms to apply South Korean military technology to modernize Mexico’s armed forces, enhancing their capabilities to address contemporary security challenges.
The bilateral agenda included significant educational, tourist, and cultural commitments to strengthen the bond between the two nations. Notable initiatives include plans to establish a K-pop culture center in Mexico and a Mexican culture institute in Seoul, fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
Prior to the working sessions, President Lee paid tribute to Mexico’s national heroes by laying a floral offering at the Homeland’s Altar. Following this, the official delegations engaged in extended discussions with prominent South Korean business leaders to assess operational conditions and investment guarantees in Mexico.
This historic roadmap not only solidifies the economic and strategic ties between Mexico and South Korea but also sets a precedent for future collaborations, ensuring mutual growth and prosperity. The agreements reached during this visit are poised to drive innovation, enhance security, and promote cultural exchange, positioning both nations as key players on the global stage.
