CBS reports on a military memo involving potential support for U.S. Southern Command.
During an interview with NBC News on Thursday, Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodriguez said the United States “will never be able to find justification” for a military attack against the Caribbean nation.

He did not believe Washington would attempt to kidnap a sitting president in Cuba, as happened in Venezuela earlier this year. However, Rodriguez recalled that his country takes “threats very seriously.”
“We have adopted measures to increase our defensive capacity with the participation of the people. But the U.S. government will never be able to find justification or any reason to launch a military attack against a small neighboring country that in no way represents a threat to its national security,” the Cuban diplomat stressed.
Rodriguez added that Cuba “does not consider itself an enemy” of the U.S. “nor does it wish to be one, taking into account the deep ties that exist between the American and Cuban peoples.”
The real threat is the U.S. economic blockade., which is an “act of war,” Rodriguez stated and called for an immediate end to the oil blockade against Cuba imposed by President Donald Trump since January.
During Thursday’s interview, Rodriguez acknowledged that the U.S. and Cuba have held “some diplomatic conversations” but declined to confirm reports that the Cuban delegation is being led by former President Raul Castro’s grandson, Raul Guillermo Rodriguez Castro.
“There have been some episodes of talks, and I reiterate our willingness to continue them in the future, despite the lack of results due to the lack of understanding and the restrictive attitude on the part of the U.S.,” the Cuban diplomat said.

Washington Prepares Military Action Against Cuba: CBS
On Friday, Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) claimed that a military memo may suggest that the U.S. Army is preparing for possible military action related to Cuba.
The outlet said the U.S. Army Reserve is studying whether it can provide U.S. Southern Command (SouthCom) with law enforcement reinforcements, medical personnel, and other support units over the next four months.
The request is part of military planning directed at Cuba, according to several U.S. officials who spoke to CBS, although the message contained no direct references to Cuba.
The document, dated last week, comes at a time of intense pressure from President Donald Trump’s administration on the Caribbean nation.
Although it does not specify how many troops would be needed and there is no indication that any unit has received deployment orders, the message does ask subordinate commands for information on the availability of six units that would be under the authority of the SouthCom and would be needed in “90 to 120 days.”
Among the units is a combat logistics support battalion specializing in coordinating logistics, such as transportation, maintenance, fuel and supply needs, along with an engineer battalion. The document also envisions the creation of a medical brigade to command and coordinate medical units.
According to CBS, a SouthCom spokesperson said that, although they do not provide details about their operations for security reasons, the unit “continually coordinates with the Joint Force to assess various potential requirements in its area of responsibility in support of assigned missions.”
The latest dispute between the United States and Cuba occurred at the U.N. General Assembly this week, when the Cuban delegation left the room as Trump said Cuba is “a failed state.”
“It is a state that has completely failed. It is failing like never before and will eventually fall,” he said, reaffirming that he seeks “a fundamental change in Cuba.”
