On Thursday, New York City police arrested actresses Susan Sarandon and Hannah Einbinder during a protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his participation in the United Nations General Assembly.

Photographs shared on social media show Einbinder, known for the HBO series “Hacks,” being handcuffed by city police (NYPD), while Sarandon appears to be arrested by several officers.
Police also arrested Darializa Avila-Chevalier, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives who is backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
The New York Post highlighted that, while she was being arrested and taken to an NYPD bus, Avila-Chevalier could be seen shouting, “Free Palestine!”

Actress Cynthia Nixon, known for playing Miranda in “Sex and the City,” and Brad Lander, the former city comptroller, were also at the protest.
The protest was organized by Jewish Voice for Peace and was one of several demonstrations planned in support of Palestine and against Netanyahu’s participation in the U.N.
On Thursday afternoon, the Palestinian Youth Movement called another demonstration that set off from Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan and headed to the United Nations headquarters.
Despite widespread opposition, Israeli PM Netanyahu took the floor at the General Assembly, where he attacked Mamdani, calling him an “antisemite” who “praises convicted criminals for supporting Hamas.”
In response to those statements, the NYC mayor recalled that the Israeli prime minister is a criminal who is subject to an international arrest warrant over the genocide in Gaza.
“As he has done time and again, Prime Minister Netanyahu used his speech to repeat baseless lies meant to sanitize his genocide of Palestinians. Yet no lie can change the fact that he remains the subject of an International Criminal Court arrest warrant alleging war crimes and crimes against humanity,” Mamdani stated.
