Moshannon ICE Contract Renewed
This week, the Clearfield County Board of Commissioners, after much debate, voted to renew ICE’s contract to operate the Moshannon ICE detention facility by a vote of 2-to-1. One reason cited for extending the contract was that the local school district needed the tax revenue generated by the jobs at the facility.
Now, the federal government is considering purchasing and operating Moshannon on its own. Activists say that the move troubles them.
“If, in fact, the federal government purchases Moshannon,” Freedom for Immigrants Communication Director Jeff Migliozzi told Spotlight PA, “it will only become more difficult to monitor and expose what is happening inside, and that is very intentional on the part of the federal government.”

Pitcairn to Continue ICE Detention Agreement
The de-industralized Allegheny County community of Pitcairn voted this week to continue its agreement for police to collaborate with ICE.
“I think what’s really disturbing as far as this council meeting goes is the way that things went,” Rhiannon Gailey told the Tribune-Review. “Very strange. It felt like they were going to get pushback, which is why they went ahead (with the agreement) and nobody really got a say in it. It makes me really wonder, why are we voting anyways for council members if our council can’t speak for what the community wants?”

York County Pastor Could Still Face Deportation
Last week, many celebrated when 33-year old Haitian pastor Molis Augustave was pulled off a deportation flight headed for Haiti. However, after the federal government denied his green card application, Augustave could face deportation again.
"People power stopped Molis’ deportation. Then, in an act of retaliation and in an effort to move forward their mass deportation agenda, the Department of Homeland Security has just deprived Molis of a fair process that would keep him with his family,” said Ama Frimpong, We Are CASA’s chief of services and legal advocacy, in a statement released on Monday. “We called on the government to give Pastor Molis the fair and thorough review that is required under the law. They did the opposite. We secured time, but time on its own is not justice.”
