The 33rd Meeting of the Mexico-European Union Joint Parliamentary Committee began this afternoon with a call from Morena and the National Action Party (PAN) for the executive to send the Modernized Global Agreement with the countries of the old continent to the Senate now, for its ratification.
The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, María Teresa Mercado, reported that both the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs and the Secretariat of Economy are assembling the file that will be submitted to the upper house, and she considered invaluable the support that this sovereign body can give to the document.
Marko Cortés, PAN senator, celebrated that the European Parliament has already approved the global agreement, while in Mexico, “we are waiting” for it to be sent for a vote.
He estimated that it will be endorsed unanimously.
In the old Xicoténcatl mansion, he called on the Secretary of Foreign Affairs to carry out the necessary procedures so that the executive does not take any longer to send it to the Senate for its approval, since after the European Parliament already endorsed it, he considered that there is nothing more to review.
Morena senator Alejandro Murat also called for speeding up the work so that the agreement is presented in the upper house and can be ratified as soon as possible.
The meeting’s work will continue this Wednesday, when strategies to strengthen economies and value chains will be addressed, as well as to transition toward sustainable models and turn environmental challenges into opportunities for shared development, explained Senator Beatriz Robles of the guinda party.
