Cuba has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s latest threats against the socialist island during his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, September 22.
The Cuban delegation, led by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, walked out of the hall in protest against Trump’s hostile remarks and renewed threats of political and economic aggression.
President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounced Trump’s accusations as lies intended to justify Washington’s economic war against Cuba. “Lies are the weapon of those who refuse to accept the Cuban people’s right to self-determination,” he declared, rejecting the US administration’s attempts to portray the island as a threat.
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla likewise rejected Trump’s statements, stressing that Cuba is an independent and sovereign country that poses no threat to the United States or any other nation. He condemned Washington’s economic blockade and restrictions on energy supplies as measures of collective punishment against the Cuban people.
Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of Cuba’s National Assembly and Council of State, reaffirmed the Cuban people’s strongest condemnation of the US blockade in response to what he described as the falsehoods presented by the American delegation at the UN.
Roberto Morales Ojeda, a member of the Political Bureau and Organization Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee, declared that “Cuba will defend its right to build its future in peace, with full independence and sovereignty,” adding that the US delegation’s allegations were entirely unfounded.
The Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) also responded through its official X account, declaring:
“Cuba is, and has the right to be, a sovereign country. This will not change despite the barrage of lies repeated time and again to justify the collective punishment that inflicts so much suffering on the Cuban people. Cuba is not a threat. The blockade is”.
