The White House began broadcasting on its new media platform, Trump TV, this week, streaming government content, announcements and archived speeches on a continuous basis, days after the country’s major television networks suspended coverage of presidential events.

The launch of Trump TV comes in response to a decision by major U.S. television networks -ABC, CBS, Fox News, and NBC- to suspend joint coverage of presidential events after the exclusion of other journalists from White House press access.

The platform’s launch featured a speech delivered by President Donald Trump on July 3, during celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence at Mount Rushmore.

The controversy began when the credentials of reporters from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico were revoked without prior notice.

These organizations have filed a joint lawsuit in a Washington D.C. District Court, arguing that the revocation violates the First Amendment and seeking an emergency ruling to restore immediate access for their journalists.

U.S. President Trump justified the ban, stating that it is not an attack on press freedom but a response to the spread of fake news and defamatory reports based on unidentified sources. Meanwhile, the affected media outlets argue that the action is retaliation for their critical coverage of the current administration.

On September 22nd, Trump faced another media incident at the UN headquarters in New York, when he reprimanded a CNN reporter for covering his attendance at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, citing the ongoing ban against the network.

First, Trump banned independent news from the White House.
