The Turkish leader urged countries to recognize Palestine and criticized restrictions on the Islamic veil in schools.
On Tuesday, during his speech before the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced Zionist war crimes in Gaza and called on the international community to increase pressure on Israel.

“Today, Gaza is not only the world’s largest graveyard for children. It is also the place with the highest rate of child amputations in the world. Gaza has become the most inhumane and shameful concentration camp of our time.
“In Gaza alone, over the past 3 years, we have lost 74,000 of our brothers and sisters, most of them women and children. We lost them to what we regard as acts of state terror by Israel. The people of Gaza are still searching for their loved ones beneath the rubble. They are recovering the bodies of their spouses, their children, or parents.
“Innocent children who have lost their arms and legs in Israeli attacks are trying to return to school. Meanwhile, the West Bank is witnessing the most severe period of what we regard as settler violence and terror. In Jerusalem, Muslims and Christians are being denied access to holy sites. There is an attempt to destroy UNRWA, which is our collective initiative,” Erdogan pointed out.

The Turkish president once again stressed the need for reforms to reduce the influence of the five members of the National Security Council and underscored the importance of the United Nations as “hope” for civilians in numerous conflicts around the world.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring commercial shipping in the Black Sea, calling attacks on merchant vessels “unacceptable,” “regardless of which side they come from,” and also of protecting free passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Erdogan recalled that Turkey “is an inseparable part of Europe” and said that “it is impossible for Europe to be stronger or safer if it excludes Turkey from its security architecture.” He concluded by denouncing as an “attack” recent laws in some countries, such as Austria, against the use of the Islamic veil in schools.
