The program seeks to adapt to new market dynamics amid the affected Chinese tourism sector in Cuba.

The Chinese travel agency Alifante Tour launched a tourism package to China in Cuba, combining cultural activities with business opportunities for the evolving Cuban private sector.

The program seeks to adapt to new market dynamics after 11 years dedicated to Chinese tourism to Cuba, a sector affected by the fuel crisis that has paralyzed international flights.

The package includes ten days and nine nights with tours of Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, the latter recognized as the “manufacturing heart” of China. Guangzhou will help Cuban entrepreneurs in stocking their businesses, given the difficulties of trading with the United States.

According to the representative in Havana, Liang Juan Chen, the goal is for clients to experience the Chinese market firsthand, rather than simply doing business without having visited the country.

The package is offered under a standard tourist visa, with the agency providing support with the application process at the Chinese embassy in Havana, and is aimed at entrepreneurs and self-employed workers.

The initiative is presented as a survival strategy for the agency, in a context of declining tourism to Cuba, which fell 62% year-on-year between January and July. Chinese tourism to the island also decreased by more than 30% in recent months, after reaching 26,700 visitors in 2024.

Meanwhile, Cuba maintains close relations with China, which in January approved US$80 million in aid, in addition to donations of solar panels and 60,000 tons of rice.
