Statement by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) on the recent developments in the Saudi-Yemeni conflict and the AKP Government’s intention to involve Turkey:
“Saudi Arabia should look in the mirror. Who brought Yemen to this state? Look at the state Yemen is in today. Have tens of thousands of people not died in Yemen? Saudi Arabia, you must first answer for all this”.
Those were President Erdoğan’s words in 2019.
Today, Erdoğan and the AKP government seem only too eager to join that very same Saudi Arabia in a war against Yemen.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan now claims that Saudi Arabia has come under serious attacks from Yemen threatening its territorial integrity and sovereignty. Insisting that “we stand by our word”, he added: “They may have military needs, particularly in certain technical areas. We would have no problem meeting them.”
So let us remind Hakan Fidan and the AKP government of a few things.
You did not even bother to bring the Mecca Agreement before parliament. You cannot now use it as a pretext to join attacks on Yemen without first securing the approval of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
If you’re so keen on war, bring the agreement and the decision to go to war to parliament for a vote. Then look the people of this country in the eye and vote “yes”.
Let’s see you do it.
You will not drag our country into Saudi Arabia’s inhumane, illegal war of occupation in Yemen.
We will not allow this neo-Ottoman government to resurrect the Ottoman Empire’s bitter “Yemen legacy”.
You will not make Turkey complicit in the crimes committed in Yemen by Saudi Arabia, Israel and the United States.
The people of this country will not be made party to the disgrace of slaughtering the people of Yemen who courageously resist Israeli and US aggression.
Don’t you forget it."
