WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Holders Chelsea will not be taking part in this season’s League Cup due to European commitments when the newly formatted competition kicks off tonight with eight league phase matches. Arsenal and Manchester City, the only other teams to have ever won the trophy, are also missing from the rebranded Players Cup. Last year’s runners-up Manchester United start their campaign against Sheffield United at Leigh Sports Village.
