Workers, students, and pensioners joined activists from hundreds of political, social, and labor organizations in demonstrations across Argentina on Saturday, in one of the largest anti-government protests since far-right president Javier Milei took office in 2023. Tens of thousands gathered in central Buenos Aires, and in dozens of other cities across the country, for a “March of Anger” against the effects of Milei’s economic policies: low wages and state pensions, mass layoffs, soaring household debt, and inflation caused by tariff hikes. Protesters also demanded the enforcement of recent laws on child health, university funding, and accessibility. Demonstrators gathered at the Casa Rosada, Argentina’s presidential residence, to announce demands for a national strike from Argentina’s General Confederation of Labor (CGT), as a step towards a general strike. Organizers have promised an even larger mobilization when Argentina’s congress debates the 2027 budget in October.
