The Puerto Rican player developed a musical career while playing with the Yankees.
Former baseball player Bernie Williams, renowned center fielder for the New York Yankees, will join the musical band Buena Vista Social Club on Broadway from October 22 to November 29.

Williams played 16 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Yankees, won four consecutive Gold Gloves, and in 2015, the club retired his number 51 as a permanent tribute.
He said that the group’s music was part of his childhood in Puerto Rico and that performing it on Broadway represents “a dream come true” in his artistic life. During those weeks, he will share the stage with Jose Iglesias, a Mets player and singer, who debuted on Broadway on August 27.
Iglesias plays the musical’s narrator at the Schoenfeld Theatre, where the Tony- and Grammy-winning Afro-Cuban band plays live every night, the production said.

Williams developed a musical career while playing with the Yankees: he studied classical guitar in Puerto Rico and later at the Manhattan School of Music, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance in 2015.
His discography includes the debut album The Journey Within (2003) and Moving Forward (2009), the latter nominated for a Latin Grammy and featuring collaborations with Bruce Springsteen and Jon Secada.
The production also announced the incorporation of actress Gina Torres, known for “Suits” and “Firefly”, who will play Omara Portuondo between October 13 and November 29.
