CNN, MS NOW and Politico sued the Trump administration after being barred from joining the president’s trip.

The veto imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on three news organizations, CNN, MS NOW and Politico, puts audiovisual coverage of his trip to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at risk.

For decades, major U.S. television networks have maintained a rotating system under which one of them accompanies the president on his trips and distributes the footage to the rest of the media.

On Sept. 18, however, Trump barred CNN, accusing it of disseminating “fake news.” Therefore, the White House prevented CNN journalists from joining the presidential trip, which will not have a television crew.

Trump’s speech before the General Assembly on Tuesday will be distributed by the United Nations. However, the absence of CNN coverage compromises the availability of footage of planned bilateral meetings with the leaders of countries such as Venezuela, France, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

“I don’t want them in my office. I don’t want them here,” President Trump echoed his media outlet ban aimed at CNN, MS NOW and Politico that he issued Friday while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office.

On Monday, CNN, MS NOW and Politico filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, arguing that the measure violates the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which protects freedom of the press.

“The White House is not instituting an assault on the Free Press, something which I cherish. It is instituting an assault on the FAKE NEWS, something that has grown like Cancer in our beloved United States of America,” Trump said through Truth Social.

“It is corrupt, purposeful, pervasive, fully coordinated, and totally out of control. It is a threat to our National Security, and must be stopped, NOW!” he added.
