From Friday to Sunday, Russians also elected several regional authorities.
On Monday, Russian Central Election Commission Chairperson Ella Pamfilova said preliminary results show the ruling United Russia party won 57.83% of the vote in the election for the ninth State Duma, the lower house of parliament.

After 95.18% of the ballots were counted, United Russia led with 57.83% of the vote, followed by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation with 13.81% and the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia with 8.98%. New People and A Just Russia garnered 7.96% and 4.96% of the vote, respectively.
Turnout in the election, held from Friday to Sunday, was 59.32%, higher than the 51.72% recorded in 2021, Pamfilova said, adding that the final results are expected to be announced Friday.
The State Duma is Russia’s permanent legislative body, composed of 450 deputies. Half of the seats are distributed proportionally in accordance with party lists, while the remaining 225 are elected through single-mandate constituencies nationwide under a relative-majority voting system. Ten political parties participated in the election.

From Sept. 18 to 20, Russians also elected some subnational authorities. The incumbent governors of the border regions of Belgorod, Alexandr Shuvaev, and Briansk, Yegor Kovalchuk, as well as Tver’s Vitali Koroliov, retained their posts with 65.97%, 76.05% and 69.69% of the vote, respectively.
The head of the Republic of Mordovia, Artiom Zdunov, won reelection with 77.74% of the vote, while Chechen leader Ramzam Kadirov retained his post with a record 99.85% support. Penza region Gov. Oleg Melnichenko won with 70.89% of the vote, while Vladislav Jovalig won in the Siberian republic of Tuva with 90.95%.
All of them are members of the ruling party, with the sole exception of the current governor of the Ulyanovsk region, Alexei Russkij, who was nominated by the Communist Party and won 76.65% of the vote.
In addition to the direct elections, the parliaments of the North Caucasus republics of North Ossetia-Alania and Karachay-Cherkessia elected their respective governors from the Kremlin party. In North Ossetia, Sergei Meniailo, who was already serving as acting governor, was confirmed in the post, while in Karachay-Cherkessia, the current governor, Rashid Temrezov, was unanimously reelected.
