United States President Donald Trump announced this Sunday that the triumphal arch he wants to build in Washington D. C. will be a military compound that can house drones and snipers.

“At the express request of the United States Armed Forces, and for reasons of national security, I have agreed to transform the magnificent Arc de Triomphe into a first-rate military complex and triumphal arch,” the president wrote on his Truth Social network.

In the message, Trump detailed the functions that the military complex-monument would have, which “will allow for the rapid housing, storage, and deployment of a large number of drones and snipers (both on the roof and in the plaza), in addition to having the capacity to store large quantities of sniper ammunition.”

The triumphal arch, projected to be built between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, is one of the great works that Trump is carrying out in Washington and which are not without controversy.

Determined to leave his mark and legacy on the US capital, the president did not miss the opportunity in the Truth message to assure that “no other facility like it will exist in the whole world.”

And he insisted that “among the 59 main cities and capitals, Washington D. C. is the only one that does not have a triumphal arch; but now it will have one that will be, by far, the grandest of all!”

The construction of the triumphal arch has drawn criticism from broad sectors who question everything from the megalomaniacal nature of the construction to the visual changes in the historical axis between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington that would tarnish the solemnity of the military cemetery.
