Irregularities detected in the more than 90,000 polling stations set up in Russia for the parliamentary elections held over the past three days are minimal, electoral authorities said on Sunday.

“The percentage of complaints about irregularities is minimal. If we do the math, it’s less than 0.1% of the 91,000 electoral commissions. Colleagues, this is significantly lower than what we saw in the 2021 elections,” said the chairwoman of Russia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Ela Pamfilova, as quoted by Russian agencies.

Pamfilova assured that all complaints are analyzed “instantly.” “I can confidently state, and I reiterate, that the elections in Russia are being held in full compliance with the law, and voter turnout is very high,” she declared. She also added that reports of massive obstruction of observers’ work are “false.”

“We have practically received no complaints (on that matter),” she said, adding that more than 1,100 independent observers are working in the current elections, about forty of them from the United States and European countries.

Representatives of the pacifist Yabloko party, excluded from the elections, and the Communist Party of Russia had previously denounced the obstruction of their observers’ work at polling stations.

In addition, many voters complained about obstacles to getting a printed ballot and pressure to vote online, which the opposition sees as an instrument of fraud.

More than 111 million Russians in 89 regions are called to the polls since Friday to elect the 450 deputies who will make up the Duma, or lower house of Parliament, in more than 90,000 polling stations.

Russians residing in 152 countries will also be able to exercise their right to vote, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up 333 polling stations, many of them in diplomatic missions.
